"Alex found it when I was campaigning for mayor. Apparently my mother tried to buy her off," Oliver explained. "But she never cashed the check. Thea and Alex thought it was weird, so I looked into it."

Oliver swallowed a little, tried to get his bearings. "I met them, I had Barry test William's DNA. He's definitely mine. Samantha wasn't looking for anything."

[prosecutorial]

She nods as she processes that because yeah. That sounds like Moira Queen. Not that she's bitter about it or anything, but Oliver having to own up to his mistakes early on might have saved Laurel a whole lot of heartbreak. But that's not the conversation they're having and she's not there to speak ill of the dead.

"I'm sorry. That you lost so much time with him."

[viridescere]

"It's okay," Oliver said. "She...I've decided I'm going to wait until he's older, until he can understand what we do and how dangerous it is. I want him to make the choice about a relationship with me and not have it thrown on him and used against him when he's this young. I think that's probably the best thing to do in this situation, as much as it hurts me not to be involved."

[prosecutorial]

She nods a bit, before giving him a small smile. "I think it'll be better then, too. Instead of forcing a relationship on him, he gets to choose you. I think it'll mean a lot more that way." And while there is the chance that William may not choose it, and may want to keep his distance, that's his choice to make. Giving him that kind of choice is just as important.

"I just want to keep him safe. It's going to be easier to do that if I keep my distance, minimize who knows about him."

Oliver was all about control and so much about this situation with William and the fallout of it had been outside of his scope of control.

[prosecutorial]

She knows how Oliver needs to control his surroundings and the actions of his team. She's been on the backlash of that on more than one occasion. But she also knows that sometimes keeping someone safe doesn't always involve keeping your distance or keeping secrets.

"I get that. And I get where you're coming from. But Oliver, that doesn't mean you're not allowed to be upset about what you're losing, too."

[supertardiness]

"Right." Sort of. Probably. Wow, Oliver, why are you being so unhelpful? "And what kind of business are you here for?" Just so that he can ask all the cursory questions a normal CSI would.

"I want to be? But we can't afford for me to be upset," Oliver admitted. It was safe enough to admit to that to Laurel, who had known him before he was the Arrow and long before Oliver Queen was worth knowing, but it wasn't safe to admit to the others.

"I need to keep control of myself, my emotions. I can't get reckless."

"Queen Consolidated wants to buy out STAR Labs," Oliver explained. "I've been working on a merger for some time now. We'd fold them into our R&D division. I guess apparently there's some people out there who don't want that to happen, based on the attack. I feel like it might have been focused in my direction, though I'm not entirely certain."

[prosecutorial]

"So don't get reckless." She considers for a moment, before taking a small step closer and sliding her arms around his shoulders, pulling him closer. It's because she's known him so long, and he's been part of her life for so long that she can do this for him and pretend to the rest of the team that this never happened.

"It doesn't have to leave this room."

[supertardiness]

His eyebrows go up a bit at that. "And Harrison Wells is actually considering this?" Because as far as Barry knows, Wells was the one running the labs. At least, last he checked.

"Wells would stay on to run the division. It's part of the contract," Oliver explained. "So, really, he would get all the autonomy he wanted without any of the responsibility. I would imagine that'd be pretty lucrative for a scientist. Wouldn't you?"

It took Oliver a moment to return the hug, to fold his arms around her and take the solace that she offered. So long, he had bottled up all his emotions and held them close. It was a relief to finally let them out.

"I don't know if I can help it, Laurel."

[kittened]

Felicity hated the rain.... well at least this much rain. It was raining on her parade so speak. She decided as she was going to try and pull herself out of her funk by moving.

She clicks a few buttons on her tablet, suddenly music can be heard throughout the apartment.

She works out for awhile, sweat glistening on her body, as the knock sounds.

"Oliver?" Felicity shouted, as she missed a step and fell over the coffee table with a crash. "Ow! Perfect. No coffee... check.... my pefect handsome god-like boss standing outside my door, me hot, bothered and sweaty..... chalk this one up to a perfect day in my life."

This is all said in a normal voice because she thought that he wouldn't be able to hear her over the music."

She throws open the door her tank top clinging to her. "What happened?"

"Nothing," Oliver said, grinning at her when she pulled open the door. It was pretty clear he caught her in the middle of working out, so maybe water would have been more welcome than coffee. Oh well. He had to work with what he had.

"I just wanted to stop by and say hello." He lifted her coffee cup, showing his purpose in coming. "And bring you coffee."

[prosecutorial]

She rubs his back gently as she keeps him close, closing her eyes because she knows that that's as close to admitting he actually feels anything. She squeezes his shoulders tightly before pulling back to look at him again.

"Then use it. But be smart about it. Trust one of us if we call you out on it."

[supertardiness]

No, yeah, that sounds like Wells. "I don't know. When I've met him, he sounds a little like too much of a control freak."

But that's just ... Barry's opinion, really.

"I always trust you to call me out on things," Oliver said. It wasn't something he'd admitted to explicitly before but his and Laurel's relationship was so far evolved past what it used to be that he had no issues with discussing it now.

"I trust your judgment almost more than my own, in some ways."

[viridescere]

Oliver frowned for a moment and considered that. He hadn't considered that Wells himself might not be enamored of the contract and he wondered if that meant he was involved in this.

"Why would Wells use a metahuman?"

[supertardiness]

There's a long pause as Barry realizes what he might have ruined here, but that isn't the point. He gives a small shrug before making a note. "Don't know. But I guess that's what they'll pay me to find out."

[viridescere]

"I guess that is. Are there any other questions for me or are you finally going to let me go back to Star City?"

Oliver had been held more or less against his will in police custody for longer than he had patience for. He was an innocent bystander, not a participant.

"Who do you think helped Harrison Wells safely go through one," Malcolm asks, "I've helped STAR Labs design their version of the breach holder. Why come through? What do you need here?"

[viridescere]

"Why should I tell you what I need?" Oliver didn't know if he should trust him, honestly, even if it was some other version of Malcolm.

"What makes you think I'm going to reveal my secrets and trust you?"

[welldressedevil]

Malcolm sighs and rubs his hand over his face."Look," he says firmly, "it's clear your version of me did something that hurt you and I get that. But I'm not him and it's me you are in front of right now. You don't have to tell me anything you don't want to...but you have to tell me something otherwise things could get awkward when your father gets back and finds you here. Let me help you Oliver...please?"

"My father wouldn't understand."As much as it pained him, it was true. Still, it was something that had never occurred to Oliver, that his father might be alive in one universe, and he had to shake off the shock of it.

"I'm trying to help catch Zoom. That's why I'm here."
