Oliver had been somewhat concerned with the recent happenings in Central City and hoped that the same wouldn't be bleeding into Star City as overflow. While the concept of metas was not new to him, neither was it comfortable, and upon reaching Central City on a routine business venture, he immediately found himself a witness to yet another meta-perpetuated crime. Of course.

After having spent an awful long time explaining that he, in fact, knew nothing and was simply an innocent bystander he found himself in yet another interview room with yet another person.

"You...don't look like a cop. Please tell me that you're going to be letting me go? Otherwise I will need to call my attorney and you really don't want to be facing down Laurel Lance after a redeye from Star City."

Oliver was aware that he and Laurel needed to have a conversation about Samantha and William but considering how his life had gone into tailspin in the last several weeks, it was hard to find the right time. He finally managed to find her alone one evening in the lair when John was home with the baby and Thea and Felicity were out doing their own thing.

Just the two of them. Just the right time to say something, anything, but Oliver didn't know where to start.

"I've been hoping to catch you in a quiet moment so we could talk but I don't exactly know where to start."

(Time to meet the new girl in the CCPD records room who just transferred in from Gotham! Canon point is through "Knock,Knock" and can handle a basic set up.)

Kristen's skirt seemed to swish as she hopped onto the ladder to fish down the box of files Detective West needed for later in the day. But just like old times Kristen was keeping an ear to the ground, before she moved Nygma had mentioned metahumans being all over the city (and some had spilled into Gotham the prior month during fallout from the GCPD shooting). "And now its raining, just like Gotham." she mused, not hearing the door open as she was atop the ladder and out of earshot.

Earth-2 because I've been dying to test this out

Malcolm wanted to roundly curse his best friend sometimes. In fact he did it on a regular basis even as he was trying to get him out of whatever jam he happened to be in at the time. "I want it on the record," he was currently saying as he speed typed on the computer in front of him, "that getting caught and then continuing on as the Arrow was the worse idea you've ever had."

He heard Robert chuckle over the comms and Malcolm bristled just a little bit. "Arthur you worry too much," Robert replied. Honestly could the man be any more infuriating. "It's Malcolm now...someone decided to out Arthur King as well and now the Hidden is just as pissed at me as the city is at you. Hence the name change."

"We can get into this argument later Malcolm...were is the target," Robert said snappishly as something warned Malcolm that he wasn't alone anymore. Grabbing the gun he kept hidden under the console and turned to face someone he'd never expected to ever again.

"You're dead," he said to Oliver Queen.

Oliver likely shouldn't be back in the middle of the CCPD records room but he needed more information on Savage than he'd been getting just in the course of regular recon and even Felicity couldn't hack something that wasn't on the internet.

The clever thing to do would have been to send Barry, who actually worked here, but for some reason Oliver had decided he'd come himself. Which meant, well...now he had to deal with the file clerk.

"Is this the place to put in an open records request?" He would just play it straight, and smooth, and see where that took him.

"That would be a yes." came the voice belonging to the owner of the clicking heels. Kristen had emerged from the back when the little bell above the door rang,"Fair warning, I just transferred in from Gotham last week so am still learning the lay of the land and all." making sure if there was a delay that it was known from the start. As she spoke Kristen was also steering herself for the questions, everyone wanted to know about the mob war and the recent shooting after all.

"Well, let me welcome you here, then," Oliver said, grinning a little.

"Not that I'm from Central City, at all, but I do a lot of business here. I'm Oliver Queen. I'm a friend of Barry Allen's?"

"And yet, alive," Oliver said, watching Merlyn carefully. Seeing his father alive had his heart in his throat but Oliver tried to tamp it down. This was Earth 2 and these people weren't his version of anyone. This was something completely different. Barry had explained that but it still hadn't prepared him for the reality of it.

"Put the gun down?"

It had been raining for what felt like the better part of six months but Oliver was used to that. The weather patterns in Star City went from bone dry to monsoon without anything in between and he wondered if he'd ever want anything different, if living in a place with four seasons would satisfy him.

Today's weather was the bone-chilling kind of rain that's just warm enough not to fall from the sky as ice instead. He pulled up the hood on his jacket and thought, not for the first time, that he probably should have A) called before going over to Felicity's and B) wore something a little more waterproof. Still, he's got coffee and a smile so he figures she won't be in too terrible a mood when he drops in on her.

He knocked at her door before calling out, "Felicity, it's me." It was her day off, sure, but couldn't a boss show some appreciation?

Malcolm stands up gun still pointed right at Oliver. He stares the young man down with the same hard gaze as his Earth One counterpart. But his stance is not as stiff and the jeans. leather jacket and t-shirt speak of a man who is used to getting dirty and who is always ready for a fight. "Forgive me for not easing up, but the last time someone came back from the dead your father almost died......answer the question Oliver, how are you not dead right now?"

This is ... so surreal. Business Man Oliver Queen is a bit reminiscent of when he first met him back in Star City, but this is different. This Oliver doesn't have the years of the island weighing on him, so maybe Oliver won't be the person who can help him get out of Earth II.

"My name is Barry Allen. I'm a CSI." Or he is. Usually. "I just have to have a few questions about what you know about the metahumans in Central City."

That is never a good start to a conversation.

She glances over at Oliver hesitantly for a moment, trying not to feel the weight of the conversation before they've even had it. She has a feeling she knows what this is about, but she isn't sure she wants it either. It's one thing to have a moment of weakness in front of her father. It's another to have it in front of Oliver, who she struggles to have treat her like an equal as it is.

She takes a deep breath before turning to face him fully. "We don't have to." They're the past and they can leave it there, even if it hurts.

"The short version is not much," Oliver said, shrugging a bit. He had gone over this several times but possibly they needed to hear it again to really cement the fact that he didn't know anything.

"I was here on business, I witnessed some woman freezing an entire city block, I wound up here. That is the sum total of what I know about metahumans in Central City."

"I owe you better than that," Oliver said. He couldn't read Laurel quite as well as he used to be able to and he wondered if "we don't have to," meant she didn't want to or that she did and was giving him an out. Oliver wasn't interested in taking the easy way out any longer.

"It's a part of my life that began when we were together and I feel like I need to talk to you about it, to discuss it, to let you have a chance to discuss it too."

"I'm not dead," Oliver said, unwilling to admit to being from through the breach until he absolutely had to. "Is it so hard to believe that someone might have survived apparent death?"

It wasn't the best explanation. "I can't explain it, Malcolm. Put the gun down."

Malcolm sighed and put the gun down as requested though he kept it right within reach and sight of them both. "Start talking," he says, "what the hell is going on and why are you here? You should be dead but you aren't. I'd say breacher but word from STAR Labs is they've been sealed."

"From the breach," Oliver confirmed. "All but one is closed and I came through that one. How do you know about that anyway?"

The Malcolm on his own version of Earth was different, somehow, and Oliver hadn't quite parsed all the differences between the two yet.

She lets out a slow breath, before turning to face him some more, before crossing her arms in front of her chest. It's hard to be vulnerable in front of him about something like this, something she thought she had finally put to rest and moved past, but she can still feel the way it stings, the way it hurts, and all she wants to do is move on.

"That's part of the problem. I'm not sure I can 'discuss' it when part of me just ... really wants to punch you in the face. And it's not about keeping William a secret because I understand why you had to do that - it wasn't your call to make, it was hers. But ... "

Was she really that awful to be with? To love? Was her loving him not enough? She hates that she's asking herself these questions all over again.

"I wasn't a good man then, Laurel," Oliver started. "I thought that the world owed me something simply because my name was Queen. I thought that I could have everything I wanted on my terms, with no work, because that's how the world had operated for me up until that point."

He paused for a moment, trying to decide how to say what he needed to say. "It didn't have to do with you. You were...I wanted to marry you, Laurel, and that scared me. It scared me that for some reason I wouldn't be able to have everything I wanted when I wanted and instead of feeling like something precious, it felt like entrapment. I reacted against it in the worst way and I dishonored you and what we had. It had nothing to do with you, save for the fact that I loved you and I wanted something more with you than I had ever wanted with anyone else. My reaction to that connection was immature and unacceptable. I know that now. I also know that anything I say to you now isn't going to erase what I did. I know."

It's an apology she never thought she would have gotten, even if it doesn't have the words "I'm sorry" in it, but it's as lose as she might get. Unfortunately, it doesn't make her feel like less of a fool in the aftermath, but it does make her feel better, that he understands why she's upset.

She takes a deep breath, just focusing on her breathing and doing her best to keep it together, because she doesn't want to cry, over this, again. She shed all the tears that she was going to for Oliver Queen a long time ago, and now she needs to move forward.

"Is there anyone else that I need to worry about crawling out of the woodwork? Just ... I don't want to be blindsided again, Oliver."

"I don't think so," Oliver said, racking his brain so that his words wouldn't get proven a lie in the next days or weeks to come. He didn't want to keep hurting Laurel with their past and it seemed like no matter what he did, it just kept happening.

"I didn't even think this was out there, honestly. She told me that she lost the baby and I mourned and moved on a long time ago. It blindsided me to know that she lied to me about it."

That, she can be sympathetic too. She can understand, in a lot of ways, why Samantha would have wanted to keep the baby safe from Oliver. "How did you even find out? Especially after this long - did she come to you?"
